‘GRANNY’ SHORTS SERIES…

These videos are dementia-unit, dementia-resident specific, outlining the challenging and colourful life within a dementia unit and ways to practically assist residents living there.

To Explain This:

Granny an elderly, opinionated, delightful woman (herself with Alzheimer’s dementia but with high level cognitive function) lives in a
dementia unit.
She has a loyal grand daughter (a physio student) who visits regularly.
All is explained with their lively conversations.
The dementia unit problems that Granny and her resident-colleagues face on a daily basis are discussed as are the positive solutions that Granny has for it all.

The wide ranging conversations are also based on Granny’s magazine reading and her grand daughter’s family issues, all of which Granny takes a great interest in with her life lessons input.


AUTHOR and VIDEO CREATOR

Having worked as a physiotherapist for 35 years alongside being a diversional therapist in a dementia unit for 8 years (then writing 2 books on the topic) I’ve recently taken to creating these You Tube and Tic Toc Granny videos.

All the techniques in the books, shorts and longer videos are derived from my experience and training while Listening-To and Learning-From the many dementia patients I have encountered in my working travels throughout New Zealand, Australia England and Canada.
Throughout this time I also had a physiotherapy practice in Sydney from 1981 to 1985 treating neck and back injuries then another practice in Christchurch N.Z. for 25 years treating OOS / RSI work place injuries where I ran both clinic and company programs teaching self management skills to help patients reduce their pain and stress.

Physiotherapists observe, assess, mobilise, motivate and problem solve. They don’t medicate.
These methods I’ve continued to apply with the dementia patients in dementia units.

Additional learning has come from my life long love of reading in psychology, history, technology, biographies and art along with teaching experience in (and practice of) meditation, positive thinking and values empowerment.

Family so often want to help their relatives in dementia units, but don’t have access to the right information or the tools to know how…
So Here ….Step by Step they can.
