STORYLINE:
Thousands of Palestinian and Lebanese demonstrators gathered at in Nabatiyeh in southern Lebanon on Friday to mark Palestinian Land day amid heavy security measures.
More than 3-thousand demonstrators gathered outside the British Crusader-built Beaufort castle 15 kilometres (9 miles) from the Israeli border, waving Palestinian flags, singing Palestinian national songs and performing the traditional dabke dance.
Security forces kept them from moving any closer to the border.
Land Day is the annual commemoration of the killings of six Arab-Israelis in 1976 by Israeli police during protests over government confiscation of Arab-owned land in northern Israel.
The Lebanese army and security forces took strong measures to prevent the protest from spiralling out of control following a protest last May to mark Israel's 1948 creation, an event Palestinians refer to as the nakba, or catastrophe.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon also carried out patrols and monitored any suspicious activity from its bases near the Lebanese-Israeli border.
Lebanon is home to 400-thousand Palestinian refugees.
Thousands of Jordanians and international activists also gathered at Southern Shouneh, near Jordan's border with Israel to mark Land Day.
Prominent amongst them were members of 'Jews United against Zionism', who attended the rally in support of Palestinians.
"Occupation in Palestine is wrong..This is against Judaism. Jews are forbidden to have their own state", said Rabbi Feldman.
The group believes the concept of a Jewish state is contrary to Jewish law.
Protesters from Switzerland, Italy and Indonesia were also among the protesters at the rally, which was organised by Global March to al-Quds, the Arabic name for Jerusalem.
