Some people ask about using laser surgery for cervical herniated disc treatment. Does it work? Dr. Jack Stern did extensive research to find out the truth about laser surgery for a cervical slipped disk. He also wrote a paper in SpineLine, a journal published by the North American Spine Society. In this video, he tells us his findings.
Dr. Stern says he was amazed to discover there are not any good randomized studies giving him an indication that laser surgery has a significant role in the treatment of the cervical spine. That doesn’t mean patients haven’t gotten better from laser surgery for a cervical herniated disc, he says, but after living through enough periods where one treatment modality becomes popular, then falls out of favor and another one becomes popular, he prefers to make decisions for his patients based on proven science.
“Right now, I don’t see the science behind laser surgery,” he says.
