Jatinga is a small village in the state of Assam in India. It is known as a Bermuda Triangle for bird or avian deaths.
For over 100 years, in the months of September and October.
On dark nights between 6 and 9:30 p.m., hundreds of birds become disturbed and disoriented, and plunge towards fire and light.
Some birds die by falling, but usually the villagers kill them, believing them to be flying spirits from the sky.
Many theories have been proposed, one suggesting that high altitude, wind and fog disorient the birds.
Another theory attributes this to, the changed magnetic properties of the underground water.

Wildlife and bird societies in India are trying to educate the villagers about the phenomenon, to stop the mass killings of the birds.

These efforts have lead to a decrease in bird deaths in the recent years
