Randy: Hey guys. Randy here at etrailer.com. Trailers and trailer management, cargo management, it's kind of one of the areas we've got tons of different products on. Today we're going to be taking a look at one from Cargo Smart. This is a D-ring connection point that offers a gate. You can see this gate's going to move over and out of the way and allow you to attach just about anything you want.

Combine that with the very large and open section here and there's really not going to be much you can't get ran through here to secure down whatever it is you want.This is going to be secured down to the floor using a couple of three eighths inch carriage bolts. You'll have to pick these up. They're not provided, but they do an excellent job of holding it in place. We're using, again, three eighths inch carriage bolts, run down through the floor into a washer and a lock nut.Each application is going to be a little bit different. But you definitely want to use good quality hardware so you can ensure that your strength is going to be there.

On the entire D-ring and base, we're going to have a yellow zinc finish. So even if you're going to be throwing this on a utility trailer where it's going to be outside all the time, rust and corrosion really shouldn't be an issue for you at all.There are certain situations where having the gate here on the side is going to come in really handy. It's going to work out very effectively for you. But I think that is also what creates the weakness in this tie down, the safe working load limit is 400 pounds. So essentially for something 1,600 pounds, we'd need four of these in place to strap it down to.

We have others that are available.There's one that uses an extremely similar bracket here at the bottom. It's a D-ring, it's not as large as this one. So the opening isn't as big. That's where this one does have its place. But it has a pin that slides through and that's something I really like so we can leave the base installed, pull that pin and remove that D-ring, so then we're not dealing with the noise as it bounces around, and we can also take them out to make everything just a little more flat and flush when we're loading and unloading.Now the bracket that holds our D-ring down, that's going to come off the floor by about five eighths of an inch.

If you want something that's more smooth and level, we have one like this from Brophy, this is going to give us a good solid connection point, and we're really only looking at maybe a quarter of an inch, three eighths potentially.But this one's going to be a really nice solution. It also gives you a higher capacity. So while this is going to be a great option, we do have others available if this one doesn't fit your needs exactly.Now to install our bracket to hold our D-rings in place, we're going to be using three eighths inch carriage bolts, while on the bottom side we're going to use a flat washer and a nylon lock nut. Now the three eighths carriage bolt is going to fit right down in those square holes. It prevents it from turning. Really makes installation a one person job. And also it's going to give you the smoothest surface possible rather than a hex bolt sticking up there.And we need to decide where we're going to mount our bracket, and that's really going to up to you. Ours is going to be going right out here. It's going to work in conjunction with this track to hold our generator in place here in the back. So you're going to get that positioned where we want it. I'm just going to mark my two hole locations there with the three eighths inch bit. Then we can get them drilled out.Going to grab our bracket. We want to place that over our ring, and then we'll get our carriage bolts slid down and through. Once we get those down flash, we'll head to the bottom side there and show you what we'll do there.We'll just get these started on. I like using the nylon lock nut just because we know it won't back off of there. You can also use a lock washer if you want. But the flat washer helps to spread that energy out. It's really going to help reduce the possibility of us pulling these anchors up through that plywood. We'll just get them snugged down.Now you can see that's going to provide us with an excellent spot to attach our straps, tie our rope off to. And remember we do have that gate on the side. That'll allow us to clip things in, or if we're going to be lashing something down where we want to bring a roof over it back and forth several times, that'll allow
