The previous-generation Kia Niro had a lot to love, with its eco-friendly powertrains and practical shape. Can the all-new 2023 Kia Niro fix the old car's shortcomings while also improving on what made the old Niro such a good vehicle?
Today, let's go through the 2023 Niro's press photos to discuss the Niro's design, specs, powertrains, and features!

2023 Kia Niro
- Released in 2021 in certain markets
- Coming to the US in late summer or fall 2022
- Front wheel drive
- Available as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), battery electric vehicle (BEV or EV), and hybrid (HEV)
- EV - 253 mile range, with 10-80% charge in 45 minutes. A bit more range than the base EV6, but less than EV6 with upgraded battery
- PHEV - 33 mile battery range, 180 hp total output
- Hybrid - 53 mpg combined, 139 hp total output
- Based on new K3 platform, shared with Hyundai Elantra. Should be lighter, with a lower center of gravity than old Niro
- Very slightly larger than the old Niro, most notably 2.5" longer

The Kia Niro will compete with a wide range of vehicles, including the Mazda MX-30, Mazda CX-30, Honda HR-V, Honda CR-V, Subaru Crosstrek, Subaru Forester, Hyundai Kona, Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ford Escape, Chevrolet Blazer, Chevrolet Equinox, Toyota Prius, Acura RDX, and Tesla Model Y.
The Niro EV is positioned as a cheaper alternative to the Kia EV6. Although the Niro EV and EV6 both start around $40k, the EV6 can get an upgraded battery and AWD, pushing its top-end price to nearly $60k.
