This here's DJ Chris Medley from Kansas City. Starting in 1991 at The Whistle Stop nightclub,
I've been spinnin' for the downtown KC clubs until 2010, when my residency at Tootsies (1822 Main Street) ended. If I'd had these remixes back then..., well, one can only imagine!
Here's lovely Miss Alicia Bridges with her self-penned one hit wonder... but oh, how wonderful it is !!
This version is based on The Rapino Brothers' remix showcased on the 1995 "Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert" soundtrack. Their flat clap & snap beats in the early 90's captured the fever of House Music as it monsooned onto the radio & into the clubs, spearheaded by the most influential house tune ever, Madonna's "Vogue" in 1990.
As for Charlie & Maco Rapino, the duo scored their 1st club hit with "The 1st Lady of House Music", singer Kym Mazelle. 1992's "Love Me The Right Way" managed to hit the Billboard Hot 100, and the Italian-born brothers went on the remix for Kylie Minogue and Brit boy band Take That.
As House Music faded in 1995, so did The Rapino Brothers' talent, as they added one last footnote...this blissfully high-energy, but absolute Train Wreck of a remix of our dear Alicia. The radio verson was sublime, but the extended mix was a useless instrumental, vocal for verse/chorus x 2. After the legendary sax solo (one of the best in disco history), the remixers behead the vocals, chopping them off with a guillotine.
This DJ Chris Medley version is a redrum using some bassed TF out R3hab beats & the extended & radio versions. When Alicia delivers her savage scoff between the lines "maybe that'll make...a man outta you", ooh, it's gonna hurt so good !
