I'm sure many of you are wondering what to expect during your first adjustment here at Synergy Family Health. For some of you, this is your very first time ever receiving a chiropractic adjustment, and for others, you have either had some experience or have enjoyed the many benefits that chiropractic offers over a lifetime. Either way, my name is Dr. Eric Janowitz and I want to express to you what an honor it is to serve you and your family.
At Synergy Family Health we use a variety of different chiropractic techniques that are all designed to make the adjustments as comfortable and effective as possible. Now, the actual adjustment only takes one to two minutes to perform, yet the result is often a powerful release of energy flowing through your nerves, providing strength and energy to your muscles and organs in your body. Another side effect can be a great reduction in pain or even greater flexibility.
Our tables are the most advanced in the chiropractic industry and they have what is called draw pieces here. The draw pieces allow the doctor to put a good amount of force of the spine with the table absorbing most of the force, allowing the adjustments to be very comfortable. This handheld instrument is called an Arthur stem. The Arthur stem allows us to put a series of adjustments to the spine to help retrain awful position. We can also use this instrument on tight muscles to help release and further aiding correction.
Another instrument that we may use is called an activator. The activator is a handheld instrument that allows us to provide a variable amount of force in key areas of the spine in order to correct your misalignments. Of course, we also use our hands to employ a gentle pressure to cause a correction. That is often what is referred to as a traditional adjustment. Our doctors have undergone extensive training to perform these procedures with accuracy, safety, and comfort.
You might be asking yourself, "What is the difference between using the table instruments or my hands?" All adjustments are designed to perform the same outcome which is to apply a specific force in a specific direction in order to correct the misalignment and restore optimal nerve flow. Some of you might be wondering, "Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?" Our philosophy of care is to use the least amount of force possible to make the most amount of correction. The reality is the release that often occurs with a chiropractic adjustment is typically pain relieving and very enjoyable.
We can, however, expect three reactions to occur after an adjustment. Many of our patients feel lighter, have a greater range of motion, less pain, and even a bit euphoric. This is a wonderful response and that means that your body is very receptive to change. This means that you are already enjoying some of the wonderful effects that chiropractic offers. The next reaction is that you might have some muscle soreness. This is also a normal healthy response, very similar to a person who just restarted a workout program at the gym. This means that your body has already made changes but the muscles are attempting to pull them back into your misaligned position.
The fact that you made a change, however, is a great thing. The final response to an adjustment is that you may feel no change at all. Although this may feel a bit disappointing to you, it is a normal response as well. This tells the doctors that your misalignment pattern has been there for a long time and your body is slightly resistant to change. This will allow us to make the correction in the most appropriate manner for you to still give you most amazing results and keep you on track with your health.
I received my first chiropractic adjustment at age six and I have wanted to be a chiropractor since I was nine years old. Delivering your first adjustment here at our practice is one of the most exciting experiences that I get to enjoy. Observing the amazing changes that occur in our patient's life is the reason why our staff comes to work every day. We look so forward to serving you and your family as you start your healing journey with us. Thank you.
