Matsumoto Castle (Marunouchi, Matsumoto City), a national treasure, is currently holding a "Night Cherry Blossom Viewing Party" in which the Honmaru Garden is open to the public to enjoy the illuminated castle tower and cherry blossoms. The event is held every year for eight days starting three days after the Matsumoto Castle Management Office announces that the cherry blossoms have opened. This year, the blooming was declared on March 24. This is two days earlier than March 26, the year before last, which was the earliest since 2008, when the office began its own observations, and the fastest in observation history.
