VICTORIA - British Columbia's top doctor says he wants to set the record straight.
Dr. Perry Kendall called a news conference today after he says he was quoted out of context, down playing the dangers of ecstasy and pushing for the drug to be legalized.
Kendall has gone record saying he supports decriminalizing marijuana and says there has to be a discussion about legalizing other drugs before more people are killed.
Kendall says he is not advocating for the legalization or distribution of ecstasy or MDMA.
He says if it was hypothetically legalized then it should be strictly regulated and controlled by the Government.
Kendall says he does not believe the current approach to drug regulation is working in Canada.
In the past year and a half 20 people have died in BC from ecstasy related complications.
