For further analysis on the current volatile situation, FRANCE 24 is joined by Jean-François Di Meglio, President of Asia Centre, Paris. "The risk is on China's side," asserts Mr. Di Meglio. He calls China's fury towards Taiwan an "obsession," as the country continues "upgrading their threats to Taiwan more and more every year." He says it is all but certain that China will continue making stark threats and increasing military plans and exercises. And he adds that they could very well try to influence Taiwan's next presidential election in 2024. But he does not foresee an all-out military campaign the way Russia invaded Ukraine. "I don't believe, at this stage, that there will be any escalation leading to a real incident or crisis."
