AlSat-Nano is a joint satellite mission between the UK Space Agency and Algerian Space Agency (ASAL). The spacecraft has been operating successfully since launch on 26th September 2016.
The design, build and verification of the AlSat-1N spacecraft took place at the Surrey Space Centre, part of the University of Surrey as a hands-on learning exercise for Algerian students, with ASAL providing the launch. Operations are being undertaken by Algerian operators trained at the Surrey Space Centre.
Operators made use of the ground station at the Surrey Space Centre with operations transferring to ASAL’s newly developed ground station in Oran.
The spacecraft platform has been built using hardware sourced almost exclusively from UK suppliers, including in house developments from the Surrey Space Centre and approximately half of its volume has been made available to UK payload providers. The satellite hosts the following payloads:
