Samuel Cook (January 22, 1931 – December 11, 1964), [aged 33 years] was an American singer, songwriter, and entrepreneur. Considered to be a pioneer and one of the most influential soul artists of all time, Cooke is commonly referred to as the "King of Soul" for his distinctive vocals, notable contributions to the genre and significance in popular music. In 1964, Sam was shot and killed by the manager of a motel in Los Angeles where he was staying. After an inquest and investigation, L.A. courts ruled Sam’s death to be a justifiable homicide. His family has ever since questioned the circumstances of his death.

About the original track:
This track is from the 1988 digital mastering of “The Best of Sam Cooke”. Even though the original track was recorded and mastered on high-fidelity vacuum-tube equipment of the era, this digital mastering was very lackluster with Sam mixed way far back with a strange bland EQ. This track was also mastered very low, peaking at only -15DB.
About my Remix/Remaster:
For the vocals, I removed the original mono reverb and replaced it with a nice crisp stereo reverb and kicked it up by 1.5DB with a brighter EQ in the 2K-3K range. For the Horns, Brass and Guitars, I ran a slight limiter on them to brighten them up. For the Drums, I uncompressed them slightly to make them punchier in the lower range. For the Bass, I left it untouched as it was originally perfecly mixed.
Technical Information:
I used DeMIX PRO v3 to isolate the Vocals, Instruments, Drums and Bass into 4 separate tracks. Adobe Audition 2020 was used for Dynamic Range recovery, Reverb, Delay, EQ, and final mixdown.
