The ''Global Thalassaemia Review' (GTR)' is a brand new publication by the Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF), which brings together for the first time a huge volume of information and evidence-based data from all over the world with regard to thalassaemia, and constitutes perhaps the most comprehensive work of the last decade on this blood disorder.
Comprising of almost 500 pages, the GTR demonstrates the immense disease burden that falls on the shoulders of thousands of patients with thalassaemia and their families in their struggle to access quality healthcare services that will enable their survival.
The Official Premiere of the publication took place on May 8, 2021, and featured WHO Director General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Dr Asmus Hammerich, Director, Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health, WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region Office, Dr Victor Boulyjenkov, Ex-Head, Human Genetics Programme, WHO,
and a multitude of high-ranking representatives of national governments, international patient organizations, prominent academics and internationally renowned figures operating in the haemoglobinopathies field.
Among the participants to highlight national success stories in the prevention and management of thalassaemia were:
