STORYLINE:
Madagascar's opposition leader Marc Ravalomanana said on Monday he's confident he will soon be president.
Ravalomanana made the prediction in Antananarivo, where hundreds of thousands of opposition supporters staged a peaceful protest in the capital's Independence Square, calling for President Didier Ratsiraka's resignation.
Demonstrations have been held daily since the results of the presidential election were released three weeks ago.
Ravalomanana won the first ballot, held on 16 December last year, with more than 200,000 votes over Ratsiraka.
But the High Constitutional Court has certified results that say he secured only 46% of the vote, short of the absolute majority needed to avoid a second round of voting on February 24, 2002.
Ravalomanana claims the election was not carried out fairly and says he has evidence proving he secured at least 52% of the vote.
