Jahaji is the title track of the debut album ‘Jahaji’ of Shironamhin which describes struggling urban life.
Song Title: Jahaji (Sailor)
Band: Shironamhin
Lyrics & Tune: Ziaur Rahman Zia
Year of publication: 1997
A known city, known roads, well known Dhaka
Flowing around lighting up my eyes all alone like a sailor is
Plasters & limes drop out from the wall of my body
But still climbing steps and stop when I reach out so high
And find the last roof is blue
Designed with white lights that look like seagulls.
A hard fact for the sailor is to go forward
Without having a return ticket.
A pale building standing by the street
A shop name & then “welcome to our world”
It’s raining already in someone’s world but the neon sign is welcoming you
WELCOME then TO OUR then WORLD
It takes time to realize that that very WELCOME is the desire
And someone is selling it cheap.
Precious like my childhood, my song soaked with tears
My pride Saint Gregory is getting old in course of time.
My very own last bus, my shattered breath
The chewing gum of brother Charles & my blood from my sweat
Returning home in my very own last bus, urge to find a life
My deck in my ship, broken anchor, broken heart
Broken anchor
There is nothing more to realize for the sailor is to go forward
Without having a return ticket.
