With terrorist groups proliferating and increasingly exploiting new technologies, now is the time to reflect on how NATO’s response has changed over the past two decades, and what its future counterterrorism efforts will look like amid unprecedented security challenges on its eastern periphery. Authorities tasked with addressing this constantly evolving problem have focused on improving threat awareness, developing the necessary new capabilities, and enhancing engagement with partner countries and other international actors. To discuss this work, The Washington Institute is pleased to announce a virtual Policy Forum with NATO counterterrorism head Gabriele Cascone. The event will be moderated by Matthew Levitt, the Institute’s Fromer-Wexler Fellow.

Gabriele Cascone spent the first part of his career as an officer in the Carabinieri Corps and then joined the NATO International Staff, where he currently heads the Counterterrorism Section in the Emerging Security Challenges Division. The main focus of his NATO career has been the Middle East, North Africa, and the Western Balkans.
