Live a lonesome life
A heavy heart, a burdened mind

What’s left of all that I could be

For once I fought for freedom from the juggernaut
Of phantoms pulling down my peace of mind
Only to slide
To the shadows
Hiding in the shadows

I’m a severed tie
Cut adrift and cast aside
To the outer fringes
Where the dispossessed reside

You may recognize
From the corner of your eye
I’m a raw reflection
Of yourself in trying times

In the days of yore
I strode upon a distant shore
Hopeful of the heights that I might climb
But a fearsome host of crooked kings and hungry ghosts
Took a wrecking ball to all that once was mine
And left me lying

Of sleeping over subway grates
And scrounging for salvation in a dime
