"Unbroken" is a biography of World War II veteran Louis Zamperini, a former Olympic track star who survived a B-24 bomber crash in the Pacific Theater. Louie Zamperini then spent 47 days drifting on a raft, and then survived more than two and a half years as a prisoner of war (POW) in three Japanese POW camps.
In 1969 this Consolidated B24 Liberator was purchased by the Commemorative Air Force, formerly known as the Confederate Air Force. The CAF then restored the plane to the colors of the World War Two 98th Bomb Group. It remains a member of the Commemorative Air Force Ghost Squadron to this day, making frequent air show appearances.
Rather than flying to the 2021 EAA Airventure air show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, 'Diamond Lil' appeared with the B-29 bomber 'Fifi' in Rochester, Minnesota.
The B 24 was considered a workhorse among WWII warbirds, but eventually replaced by the B29.
