This is a shake table. Science teachers use this type of thing to teach students about earthquakes. Students build a model building, clamp it down to the board then gives it a good shake to see how it holds up. As you can see, it's made of fairly simple parts. Springs, wood, steel. This part here is from a bicycle (the front wheel, the axle hub assembly without the spokes). That's about it!
