Internationally acclaimed Norwegian accordion player and composer Frode Haltli has created his own distinct path between Nordic folk music, jazz and contemporary composition. He studied the accordion at The Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo from 1994 and at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music in Copenhagen, where he debuted with a concert in 2000. Not long after he released his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Looking on Darkness’ on the prestigious ECM label. Last year he released the album ‘Avant Folk’ on the excellent Norwegian label Hubro. Here he has gathered a remarkable group – an all-star cast of Norwegian musicians spanning all ages, generations and genres. With his vision of “avant folk”, the music of Haltli indeed seems to be perfect for Fanø Free Folk Festival. Here he will perform with the ensemble as a quintet, where he is joined by Erlend Apneseth (Hardanger fiddles), Hans P. Kjorstad (violin) Oddrun Lilja Jonsdottir (guitar and vocals), Juhani Silvola (guitar), Fredrik Luhr Dietrichson (double bass) and Per Oddvar Johansen (drums).
