This is a playthrough using Red Eye in the Saturn version of Last Bronx. Read on below for more information...
Red Eye is the boss of the game. He is an unlockable playable character.
===== HOW TO UNLOCK RED EYE =====
This for the Saturn USA version of the game:
1) Beat the game with all the regular characters in Saturn Mode.
2) After you've done that, on the character select screen, Red Eye can be selected by highlighting Yusaku or Joe and pressing Up; or highlighting Lisa or Kurosawa and pressing Down.
===== STORY =====
He is the Second All Tokyo Street War representative of the recently formed and enigmatic criminal organization Redrum. He wields a pair of full metal tonfas for battle.
Red Eye's real name is Ken Kono and he is the elder brother of Yoko. He co-founded the military survival game group G-Troops. Ken gets on the bad side of Redrum after he refused to fight for them for control of Tokyo's underworld, so as consequence he is jumped by thugs of their group and was set on fire before being taken to their headquarters to be tortured and brainwashed to their cause.
Eventually he was outfitted with implanted cybernetics, and leading the order to attack general members of Tokyo's most influential street gangs to signal Redrum's intent of the declaration of the Second All Tokyo Street War Tournament.
Red Eye serves as the penultimate challenger for the remaining winner to face, with the "honour" of having the chance to claim all of Tokyo's streets as their own, and as Tokyo's toughest gang leader.
===== GAMEPLAY =====
Red Eye is a derivative of Yoko... even though some think he is identical to Yoko, he actually isn't. They differ slightly with some unique moves to themselves, but Red Eye is generally more faster and powerful.
===== ABOUT LAST BRONX =====
Last Bronx can be described as "Virtua Fighter 2 with weapons"... it also uses the same 3-button system as well. It seems that with the success of VF2 back then, Sega's AM3 team tried to create an "alternative" in the name of Last Bronx to further milk and capitalize on the VF gameplay system. The result is a good one, in my view.
The game consists of an urban setting with a gangster/rivals based atmosphere... there are plenty of city/night scenes in this, and the stages/backgrounds are of iconic landmarks of Tokyo. The soundtrack is also decent (in my view) as it has that old-school flair that is (unfortunately) not found in modern fighting games any more.
===== ABOUT THE SATURN PORT =====
The Saturn version of the game is developed by the same staff that made the Arcade original. Obviously due to the Saturn's inferior hardware it means that the game isn't Arcade-perfect of course... for example in-gameplay, the character's shadows on the ground are oval shapes instead of the real-time shadows; the plane in Yusaku's stage has been omitted; and the in-gameplay character models do not appear on the character select screen. There generally tends to be less detail overall on the characters and stage backgrounds too. Nevertheless, the game runs at a solid 60fps and is still a very impressive port.
