Murugan is the second son of Siva and Parvathi, brother of Lord Ganesha. Murugan is worshipped widely in Southern India, especially in Tamilnadu. In fact, he is called the Tamil Kadavul (The Lord of the Tamil people). He is also the Hindu god of war. He is the Commander-in-Chief of the army of the devas. His six most important shrines in India are the Six Abodes of Murugan also known Arupadaiveedu literally meaning six warhouses, temples located in Tamil Nadu.
