While residents of La Palma island in Spain said Saturday they were still scared of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, which has been erupting since Sept. 19, they also said they were fascinated by the once-in-a-lifetime occurrence.
"Despite the harm it's causing to families, destroying their homes, their work, it's something amazing," resident Jessica Ferrera told reporters.
The red-hot lava continued to light up the night sky in the early morning hours Sunday as the eruption stretched into its 22nd-straight day, having destroyed nearly 1,150 buildings and surrounding land.
