‘The piano selection is always a big moment for me, because every instrument is just so different.’
Did you know that pianists performing at the Southbank Centre have a number of different pianos to choose from? Sit in with acclaimed pianist Alice Sara Ott [ Ссылка ] as she selects her preferred instrument for a concert in our Queen Elizabeth Hall.
Ott explains what she herself looks for in a piano, with a preference for an instrument that better conveys its softest register. The pianist works with John Heard, the senior concert piano technician for our Royal Festival Hall, to choose her instrument, whilst demonstrating the differences in depth and breadth of sound that the instrument can deliver.
Ott also describes the role of a musician in conveying the challenges of a conductor’s work to the audience, and tells you how her taste in piano reflects her taste in wine.
Alice Sara Ott returns to the Southbank Centre for two concerts as part of our Spring/Summer 2024 classical music programme. Find out more: [ Ссылка ]
