Documentary about the history of terrorism in the 20th century.
Part 1 looks at the origins of 20th century terrorism, which can be traced to the French Revolution and Robespierre, the first to use systematic violence to eliminate enemies. Robespierre would inspire Lenin, Stalin and Hitler. During Robespierre's "Reign of Terror," some 17,000 people were killed before he himself was executed.
Part 2 examines how terrorism was deployed in three colonial nations -- against the British in Kenya and Palestine, and the French in Algeria -- to create panic, destabilize the colonial system and gain independence.
Part 3 looks at "terrorism camps" that sprouted in Cuba and around the Third World. By 1970, terrorism began to escalate in places like the Middle East, Italy and Germany.
Part 4 looks at terrorism in the 1990s, when religious terrorism replaced nationalist terrorism. The program looks inside two of the deadliest terrorist organizations, the Hezbollah and Hamas.
