In 1934, in Canada, Elzire Dionne gave birth to five identical girls. To ensure the babies' survival, the sisters were removed from their parents and looked after in a specially built hospital, only to become a major tourist attraction.
Cecile, Annette and Yvonne, the three surviving sisters, are now 64 and living together in Montreal. They talk openly about their lives, which since birth have been scarred by loneliness and tragedy. This film, first shown in Inside Story two years ago, is updated with news of the Quebec government finally compensating and apologising to the remaining sisters for their treatment.
