The Symphony No. 9 in E Minor From the New World, Op. 95, B. 178 (Czech: Symfonie č. 9 e moll „Z nového světa"), popularly known as the New World Symphony, was composed by Antonín Dvořák in 1893 while he was the director of the New York Conservatory from 1892 to 1895. It is by far his most popular symphony, and one of the most popular in the modern repertoire. In older literature and recordings this symphony is often indicated as Symphony No. 5.
For the first time ever the China National Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) Orchestra will visit Australia. This world-class orchestra will perform one concert only at Sydney Opera House on Tuesday 6 November 2012. The concert features an orchestra of 90 under the baton of NCPA's Artistic Director of Music, Maestro Zuohuang Chen.
For the Orchestra's Sydney premiere China National Center for Performing Arts 0(NCPA) Orchestra will perform a selection of masterpieces including 'The Butterfly Lovers' and Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World". The concert also features violinist Feng Ning, the first prizewinner of the Paganini Competition in 2006, and a regular guest artist with top conductors, orchestras and festivals around the world.
This is a unique opportunity for Sydney audiences to experience exquisite music and witness the supreme skill and artistry of the China NCPA Orchestra.
