This feels like the PS1 Crash Bandicoot game that time forgot. The original game is remembered as an early Playstation hit, and Warped was the cleaned-up, adventurous sequel with cleaned up controls and varying gameplay sections. Crash 2 essentially gets stuck in the middle of these, where they are cramming in new gameplay mechanics and more varied level design, but the controls still feel difficult to cope with, and there are still plenty of trial-and-error deaths that feel more than a little cheap. Might be why they give you so many lives...
