Late planted wheat crop of the rice zone is just bat initial milky stage. Recent spell of rains may lead to widespread wheat lodging at milky stage may lead to production loss of 20-30 % or even more in some cases. Comming rain showers associated with high wind velocity may show very positive effect on wheat crop in most northern parts of the country especially in the rain fed areas and KPK. However, in central to south Punjab lodging may cause heavy damages.
Wheat crop is cultivated on a large area of Punjab and different other parts of country. Due to unfavorable weather forecast conditions, wheat crop lodges in different areas. In this video, we have highlighted the expected loss of wheat production in case of lodging of wheat. Wheat production loss depends upon the stage of wheat crop. If wheat lodges at an earlier stage, loss will be high. Whereas, if wheat lodges at a later mature stage, despite of severe lodging, production loss will not be very high. Different percentages have been described in this video to access the actual expected loss of wheat production. Weather plays a crucial role for growth and development of wheat crop. If weather and climate conditions support the crop, we can achieve a bumper yield of crop. But if weather and climate conditions are not favorable, there are chances of reduction in overall production of the crop.
