In this video I am showing a movement strategy to manage going downstairs without hurting knees. This is a bit awkward movement strategy so it will take some practice to get familiar with.
Although I am suggesting that this strategy is the best one that everyone should be using, or it will eliminate your knee pain completely, this is one option that transfers some work/stress from knees to hips by incorporating hip rotation (internal rotation) on weightbearing leg.
I know many people with knee pain go downstairs sideway, holding onto railing because going downstairs sideway allows you to use hip rotation more, thus you don't use or stress your knee as much.
