At 11am on Friday 11 November 2011 the Friends of Southern Cemetery in Manchester held a Remembrance Ceremony to commemorate the more than 1,300 war dead interred there. Veterans were joined by MP John Leech, local Councillors, cemetery staff, police and City Hall officials and children from St Ambrose school to mark the first such ceremony to be held in the cemetery. The format for the event was supplied by the Royal British Legion. Following the ceremony, visitors had the opportunity to view an exhibition of World War memorabilia in the Remembrance Hut, and received an interesting input from the exhibitor, David Harrop. Special thanks to David, and to STS Systems, Manchester, for the loan of their PA equipment. Thank you Pete!
