WW2 GERMAN 88MM GUN UP CLOSE
Get a close up view of one of the most famous – or infamous – weapons of the Second World War, this German 88mm Pak43 anti-tank gun.
Around 2,100 were produced between 1943 and 1945, this version being a model with two-piece barrel – a design which reduced the wear on the gun when compared to the original once-piece barrel guns.
The barrel on this gun measures over 6.3m in length and, incredibly, it had a maximum range of over 15km!
It was a weapon which found use in many casemates along the Normandy coast, including at Wn72 Vierville-sur-Mer where one can still be found inside the R677 casemate.
The gun is now on display outside the Omaha Beach Memorial Museum in Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer.
