We crossed the border on foot from Albania to Macedonia, what was supposed to be straight forward turned into a right disaster and took us twice as long as it should have! 🇦🇱🇲🇰
We hopped on a bus from pogradec to the turnoff to the border, from here our bus driver said it was a 5 minutes walk lol.... More like 45.
Luckily a lovely Macedonian man picked us up and drove us to the border for free without us even trying to hitchhike.
The border crossing on both sides was an absolute breeze!
Then the problems came, we embarked on our walk from the border to the small fishing village of Radozhda on the Macedonian side of Lake Ohrid.
This should have only taken an hour or so but we got caught up with some people doing a prayer walk! And we were invited to join them so why not!
We got completely lost, walking through thick bushes and ended up back at the Albanian border at the gate to a military zone... We had to go all the way back, eventually came across an eerie abandoned campsite, then finally arrived in the beautiful village of Radozhda about 2 hours later than we should have...
We stayed in the unbelievable FreeFlow Hostel here in Radozhda and it was fantastic, the rooms are cosy, affordable and the views are spectacular over Lake Ohrid. Gene the host also really looks after his guests and bakes the most amazing banana bread ever. I can't recommend a place enough
