Dawkinsia filamentosa, formerly Puntius filamentosus is a fairly common barb and a widely distributed species in India. All the clips in this video were taken in the eastern ghats of Andhra Pradesh, at Tada falls. Their coloration is significantly dependent on the time of the day ( warmer the water temperature, paler the color ). Most adult males are easily spotted sparring at the rival males or in pursuit of a gravid female and that's when they display their vibrant breeding coloration. The juveniles have clear bands, which is why they are appear like Tiger Barb. It's always a fascinating sight to watch them swim in huge numbers!
