Rebecca Hall is an acclaimed British-American actress and filmmaker whose career encompasses the multiplex, the art house cinema, and the world’s most respected theatres. She has worked with many of the industry’s greatest artists, establishing herself as a leading talent as she challenges herself with each new role.
As well as tips for young, emerging filmmakers in the industry, Rebecca also discusses her feature directorial debut in detail, which she also wrote and produced – Passing, which released on Netflix this past Autumn to critical acclaim. Passing is a black-and-white drama film written, produced, and directed by Rebecca Hall. The film is based on the 1929 novel of the same name by Nella Larsen, and its title refers to African-Americans who had skin colour light enough to be perceived as white, referred to as "passing". It was recently nominated for Outstanding British Film at the BAFTAs and Hall was nominated as Outstanding Debut By A British Writer, Director Or Producer.
Hall’s work in Vicky Christina Barcelona garnered her Golden Globe, BAFTA Orange Rising Star, London Critics Circle and Gotham Award nominations in the performance and breakthrough categories. Her other film credits include Godzilla vs. Kong, Christine, The Awakening, Frost/Nixon, The Prestige and Starter For 10, to name but a few.
Hall starred in acclaimed miniseries Parade’s End, for which she received a Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Actress, a BAFTA TV Award nomination for Leading Actress, and a Critics’ Choice Award nomination for Best Actress in a Movie or Miniseries. On stage, Hall received an Ian Charleson Award for her West End portrayal of ‘Vivie’ in Profession. The following year, she was recognised with an Ian Charleson Award for her portrayal of ‘Rosalind’ in As You Like It, which opened at the Theatre Royal Bath and later toured in both the UK and the US.
