The vast literature on the Stalinist terror in the Soviet Union includes relatively little discussion of the millions of individuals who were killed. The use of photographic evidence from archives in the former USSR allows scholars to help fill in the stories of many of these people. A large effort is underway to assemble photographic evidence in a repository that will be permanently accessible to scholars and descendants of those who were killed.
