The person had been to a party with a friend and after a few drinks had a sexual intercourse that is unprotected and now she fears if she has contracted HIV. Well, I do understand how distressing and how stressful the situation is for you. So I have to tell you that these things do happen and you don’t have to shy away form that. You have to seek advice immediately, because if the exposure has happened within 72 hours, you are eligible for something called as post exposure prophylaxis, which will prevent you from contracting HIV even if you were exposed to infection. But b3fore that we ned to test you if you already have HIV or you will have any other sexually transmitted infections,, which would be done by few tests and after a post exposure prophylaxis is started, you need to continue the medications for 28 days and you also need to be examined to see where there is any infections. So the best thing is to seek help and to see a doctor whom you are comfortable and you trust and whom you can talk to about your experience and your stressful situation and I am sure that you will find relief.
