Hemorrhagic disease of the newborn is caused by a vitamin K deficiency. Though not common, I’ve seen a brain hemorrhage happen in a baby due to not taking vitamin K. Most hospitals give intramuscular vitamin K shots, but some parents are hesitant. There are oral options available.
