Skardu International Airport (IATA: KDU, ICAO: OPSD) is a International civil airport in Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It is connected to Pakistan's capital, Islamabad and Skardu, the Largest City of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan through regular Pakistan International Airlines flights, it also connects Skardu with Lahore,[1] Multan,[2] Faisalabad,[3] Sial[4]kot and Karachi.[5] It also serves as a forward operating base of the Pakistan Air Force. Skardu Airport has two asphalt runways, one 8,740 ft (2,664 m) long and the other 11,944 ft (3,641 m) long. The airport operates from dawn to dusk.
Skardu, along with Gilgit, are the major tourism, trekking and expedition hubs in Gilgit-Baltistan. It therefore attracts tourists from around the world. Due to extreme weather and mountainous terrain, the means for getting around are limited. Hotels are available in the city to cater to the significant tourist activity.
Recently Government of Pakistan have upgraded the airport to international airport. Soon international flight operation will be stated.
