Eastern European countries are taking a stand against Russia by demolishing Soviet-era memorials. Politicians say they glorify Russian war crimes and the Red Army’s forced and illegal occupation after the second world war.

Latvian police have detained five protesters opposing the removal of a post-war monument in Riga, and the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case against its removal.
