ANBAR SUICIDE ATTACK
ISIS has unleashed a wave of suicide attacks targeting the Iraqi army in the Anbar city of Fallujah. 55 people have been reportedly killed.The attacks came just hours after the Iraqi government announced the start of a wide-scale operation alongside shiite militias of the Popular Mobilisation Forces to recapture neighboring Ramadi seized by ISIS on may 17. ISIS struck near a water control station and a lock system on a canal between Lake Tharthar and the Euphrates River where the Iraqi coalition was deployed for their counteroffensive.
FIFA OFFICIALS INDICTED
At the request of the US Department of Justice, Swiss authorities have arrested 6 leading FIFA-linked officials in Zurich.They are among the 9 FIFA officials and 5 corporate executives indicted in a 24 year-long investigation by the US Attorney’s Office in New York. Individuals are accused of accepting bribes and kick-backs over the last 20 years. Those arrested will be extradited to the United States. Following the arrests, the Swiss Federal Office of Justice have announced the opening of a criminal case in connection with the allocation of 2the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
GUESTHOUSE RAID
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack on a guesthouse in a diplomatic area in capital Kabul. Four gunmen have been killed after trying to storm the premises.The attack resulted in overnight gun battle that lasted 6 hours in the Wazir Akbar Khan district, home to several embassies and official buildings.No civilian or military casualties were reported.
DEADLY HEATWAVE
Over 800 people lost their lives due to massive heat wave sweeping across India as temperature goes up nearly 50 degree Celsius. Deaths have been recorded in the South of India, with several others also reported in the northwestern desert state of Rajasthan.Hospitals were on alert to treat victims of heatstroke and dehydration. Authorities advised people to stay indoors. India's Meteorological Department said it had issued heat warnings to several states where temperatures were forecast to top 45 degrees over the next few days.
