Double Bass Etude: Bottesini Etude 3. 21 Day Etude Practice Challenge(18/21)
I have an important audition coming in the next few months, but I don't yet have the Repertoire list. I'm anticipating it coming out Feb. 1. Until then to make sure that I'm keeping my chops up I set myself the challenge of recording and uploading an etude every single day until Feb. 1 with a short explanation at the end of each. Many of these etudes I have played before, but it's been awhile, but there will also be a few new ones.
I wanted to include one from the man himself, Bottesini's 24 etudes aren't nearly as popular as his solo pieces and concertos but it has some nice stuff in there. Bottesini used a fingering system that is very uncommon in the united states, so if you have the original version you may see a bunch of 3rd fingers in the lower posiitons. This is becuase he tended to use 1-3 for half steps instead of the much more common 1-2. This one is all about the stroke, it can become pretty challenging in the string crossings and the longer runs. If you are struggling with keeping it consistent, try practincing Four strokes per note of the left hand, this way you can the left hand slow and manageable while builiding up the consistency in the right hand. Thanks for watching!
