As a veteran of Super Smash Bros for the Wii U/3DS, Cloud's top placement in his debut version has led to him being the target of several nerfs come Smash Ultimate. However unlike others such as Bayonetta and Rosalina who were effectively gutted, Cloud still retained a lot of potential, and that potential would prove to be useful in a lot of different ways later on in Ultimate's meta.
