Acceptance is something we all seek—whether it's in school, college, from family, or friends. We crave to be loved for who we are. Yet, life is a constant state of change, and sometimes, the quest for acceptance is intertwined with a struggle for identity. Abhina Aher's life epitomizes this struggle, as she grappled with the profound question of her own identity.
From an early age, Abhina faced rejection from nearly everyone around her. Her class teacher criticized her appearance, her classmates bullied her, and in a horrific incident, ten boys assaulted her. Even her mother turned her back on her during this time of crisis. These experiences drove Abhina into a deep depression, filling her mind with thoughts of suicide.
However, a few key moments shifted her perspective, leading her to an important realization: "Abhina, you need to accept yourself, love yourself, find your purpose, and recognize your self-worth." This epiphany marked the beginning of her journey from depression to self-expression, self-confidence, and self-improvement—a journey that has inspired many.
Abhina Aher’s story is a powerful testament to the importance of self-acceptance and living with pride. As a transgender activist and Associate Director at India HIV/AIDS Alliance, she has become a prominent voice for gender and sexuality rights. She also founded the Tweet Foundation, which advocates for Transgender Welfare, Equity & Empowerment, and leads the Dancing Queens, a dance troupe that celebrates the diversity of gender expression.
