The Australian tenor, Stephen Ibbotson, initially trained as a music teacher in Perth before undertaking post-graduate study at Trinity College in London. He sang with Cambridge Opera, New Sussex Opera, Kent Opera and Pavilion Opera before returning to Australia to sing with Lyric Opera of Queensland and Opera Australia. His roles with the national company included Rodolfo, Duke of Mantua, Tybalt and Ferrando. In 1993 his European career commenced at the Städtische Bühnen Lübeck and, from 1994/1995 at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe. His repertoire included the big tenor roles of the Italian, German and French composers as well as much contemporary works. We hear him here as Siegfried in Richard Wagner's GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG. The Australian soprano, Lisa Gasteen is the Brünnhilde and Kirill Petrenko conducts this performance from Meiningen on April 16th 2001.
