The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has announced plans for a $1 trillion mega-city called the Mirror Line, which aims to rival the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The project will be part of the zero-carbon smart city known as Neom, located on the Gulf of Aqaba on the Sinai Peninsula. The city will consist of two reflective glass buildings that will run parallel to each other for over 120 kilometers, connected by walkways and featuring a high-speed train running underneath.

The city is expected to house five million people in a three-tiered urban living community, featuring vertical farming, an artificial ski resort, a marina, and a sports stadium. The city is designed to be as large as the state of Massachusetts and is meant to challenge traditional flat, horizontal cities while also promoting enhanced living conditions and preserving nature. The project is intended to diversify Saudi Arabia's economy and reduce its reliance on oil, as well as attract foreign investment and create jobs for the local population. However, the project has faced challenges, including boycotts from Western countries and companies due to human rights violations in the Kingdom. These boycotts were lifted following a summit between the U.S. President and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, paving the way for increased foreign investment in the Mirror Line and other extravagant projects in the Kingdom.
