Episode 5. Exmoor national park. Somerset. England. UK. Hiking circuit from Porlock across the moors and along the South west coast path back to Porlock.

Last night i camped up on Great Ashcombe. Today i headed though deep mud and bogs on the Macmillan Way West. I have in past walked the entire Macmillan Way West path which is a fantastic long distance trail. I have also walked part todays trail on the End to End trail which goes from John o' groats to Lands end :) a amazing trail. Lets get back to today. So most of today is on the Macmillan Way West. I headed to Warren bridge which i thought would be a simple hike even though i been here twice in past i still managed to get the route a wee bit wrong and ended up deep in mud. I headed up Dry hill. from here over the moors to Larkbarrow corner. From there was a long walk across the moors to Dunkery Hill also called Dunkery Beacon the highest point on Exmoor.

Beacon at the summit of Dunkery Hill is the highest point on Exmoor and in Somerset, England at 519 metres (1,703 ft) above sea level. With views up to 86 miles (138 km) away. You can see the Bristol and English Channel coasts, the Brecon Beacons including Pen Y Fan, Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor, the Severn Bridges and Cleeve Hill 86 miles (138 km) away in Gloucestershire are visible. The hill contains several burial mounds in the form of cairns and bowl barrows. Sweetworthy on the lower slopes is the site of two Iron Age hill forts or enclosures and a deserted medieval settlement.
