VVIDEO : EMASCULATION PROCESS IN COTTON HYBRID SEED PRODUCTION
Emasculation : Removal of male organs, stamens or anthers or killing the pollens of a flower without damaging the female reproductive organ is known as emasculation. It is done to make female sterile.
Cotton is a bisexual flowers , manual emasculation is essential to prevent of self-pollination and it is done by laborers manually.
EMASCULATION METHOD
- Generally thumbnail method or Doak method is used in emasculation.
- Selection of appropriate size of flower buds
- Checking for inadvertent retention of anthers during emasculation.
- Avoiding damage to female parts during emasculation.
- Emasculated buds are marked with red colour polythene rings for easy identification during crossing on next day
- The best time for emasculation is 3-6 PM. Avoid poor emasculation .
- Strictly removal of inadvertent self pollinated bolls and open flowers.
- No emasculation in the morning.
- Perfect emasculation is very very important to achieve highest genetic purity.
