MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Whooping case numbers are on the rise across America with doctors encouraging prevention through immunizations.Whooping cough, or as it is often called the 100 day cough, is a highly contagious respiratory infection that can affect people of all ages. The symptoms are often flu like, with a deep inspiratory cough. Its very prevalent and very bad. Antibiotics sort of treat it in the beginning stages but some say antibiotics arent as affective as they go along, explained Mobile area doctor Richard Oyler. Across America, many states are seeing an increase in cases, but Alabama is steering clear of the statistics. Doctors say that it is at large because of the required immunization rates. They came out with recommendations that an adult get a TDAP vaccination just to boost their immunity, prevent from spreading the disease, said Dr. Oyler. The TDAP booster shot can be received at almost any urgent care or clinic, as well as pediatricians offices.
